Ruins of Excess

This was it.
The ruins of once a great civilization unearthed.

The tall sky scrapers.
The endless parties.
The consummation of recreational drugs.
The technologic filth.
The reckless abandon.

This was the perfect picture one would conjure up when thinking about of the end of an empire. Was it the war who caused this destruction? Or was the stagnation, the consumption of ideas and ideals that caused the war in the first place?

Does it matter in the end?

All things are passing, even the apex of a civilization is nothing but a fleeting moment, just as valid and just as belonging to history as it's lowest.
