And then I saw them all die

And then I saw them all die
one by one by one
It did not matter which side they were
whether their quest was honorable or not
their dresses were different when it all started
then they all soaked up in red
smelled much the same
were tattered the same

As I saw them all die
one by one by one
I wondered
how they know who they are
how they know who their enemy is
If swords could speak I bet
they would have cried out loud
“No Not him, he is one of yours…”
But No… swords don’t speak, they only mute

It was a summer afternoon
but does that even matter any more….
Only because I was out that day
but what could I do…?
a kid of eight afraid of every adult
because mommy said “don’t go near strangers…”
And these were not just strangers..
they were strangers who were fighting
blood gushing out….
it changes every color….
red has this magnificent ability to merge
and yet stand out….

I remember even today
Vivid as that day
I saw them all die
one by one by one
No you won’t see me in that picture
and no one lived to tell you I was there
but I got to tell you…
what you are seeing… this painting
that is my imagination…..
Can you see what I saw that day
I saw them all die
one by one by one…..
I saw them all die
one by one by one…..
